Listening / Speaking

By the end of the year students will be able to listen to simple instructions referring to their daily life and develop good listening skills (listen carefully without interrupting).

  • Review basic vocabulary taught in Reception
  • Following instructions in Greek
  • Responding in simple sentences in Greek
  • Expand vocabulary through the themes : Family, Fruits and Vegetables, Parts of a body, Animals, Weather,Days of the week, months
  • Supplementary: Songs, poems, stories, word games, crosswords, puzzles
  • Language games: Riddles, Show and Tell (δείξε μας και πες μας)
  • Circle time: Speaking, Listening, Viewing
  • Children listen to, discuss and dramatize stories read to them in Greek.
  • Children describe what they see in simple sentences
  • View Greek videos for vocabulary/discussion/enjoyment

Reading

  • Learn letters of the alphabet, upper and lower case
  • Begin reading words, sentences, and stories from the texts described above.
  • Recognize words in and out of context
  • Apply word attack skills to unlock new vocabulary
  • (Syllabication, context and visual clues)

Writing / Spelling

  • Learn the alphabet
  • Distinguish between vowels and consonants

Culture/History

  • Review how we celebrate name days, October 28, Christmas, March 25, April 1, Easter
  • History and Religion based activities (role-plays, songs, crafts)
  • Learn the Lord’s prayer in Greek (Πάτερ ημών)
